The Volunteer’s Guidelines

I will:
• Not lose sight of our mission:
• It is the mission of Families & Literacy, Inc. to Educate Hill Country adults to be active contributors in the life of the community.
•Ask for HELP when I need it and communicate with staff and other volunteers about any issues I may be having so that they may assist me.
•Treat my students/staff with respect and understanding offering constructive feedback and encourage at all times.
• Come to class/work prepared.
• I will approach problems diplomatically and with a sense of unity with my colleagues knowing that we all have the same mission.
• Be patient with myself, my students and all others.
• Track the progress of my students and encourage them to succeed even if this means seeing only minimal improvements. Remember: To our students even the slightest victory deserves celebration!!!
• Try to HAVE FUN!! Don’t forget, this is an exciting time for your students. They are trying to do something positive to change their lives.
• Take care of myself, remembering that the staff and other volunteers are here to help if I get overwhelmed.
