With a small staff, Families & Literacy would not be able to accomplish its mission
without the generous time and talents of dedicated volunteers.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization and help deliver literacy services
to those who need it.
Opportunities exist in a variety of areas - based on an individual's interests, abilities
and schedule. Volunteering for literacy is a fantastic social interaction, and when
you volunteer at Families & Literacy it's rewarding to know that your efforts are
literally changing lives for the better.
All volunteers must be 18 and over.
If you are interested in tutoring, please call to get more information.
Volunteers are the heart of our organization
Why I Volunteer....
"Sixteen years ago, as former co-owner of the Kerrville Fitness Center and previous
public school teacher of ESL, Special Ed and Art, I walked into KISD' s Club Ed.
When I overheard a discussion about their needing a sub for an evening adult ESL
class, I offered my services. I thoroughly enjoyed working with adults who were
so eager to learn English and have taught classes twice a week since that time. These
adult students come to classes after a hard day's work with a desire to read, write,
and speak English in order to function more effectively. And they pay their own way!
They have earned my humblest admiration".

Volunteering in Other Ways
Volunteers are needed at Families & Literacy in a range of areas including:
Events (special events and fund raisers during the year)
Administrative Assistance (such as data entry, filing and covering the front desk)
Literacy Advocacy (spread the word about the literacy need in our area and what Families
& Literacy is doing to address it)
All of our volunteer opportunities are very flexible and require regular time commitment.
Volunteers can opt in as and when an opportunity of interest arises, and they have
the time to be involved.
