The Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc. provided a grant to Families & Literacy, Inc. in the amount of $2,400 for support of Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.  Pictured from left are Mike Hunter, Executive Director of F&L, Marianne Tindall, VP/Banking Center Manager, Bank of America Kerrville Branch, Steve Schwarz, Vice-President, Debra Freed, President, and Captain Jeff Wendling, Treasurer Board of Directors of Families & Literacy.

"The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunity for all in its commitment to our communities.  Providing support to organizations like Families & Literacy, Inc., which provide opportunity and improve the quality of life in our communities, is key to our strategy to build capacities that truly
make a difference," said a spokesperson for the Foundation.

Each year Families & Literacy provides educational classes and services to over 500 adult students from Kerr and surrounding counties.  Even though, most students pay a small fee for the classes it is imperative that these fees remain low.  This grant will help F&L maintain a high quality of classes and serve the most students possible.

Families & Literacy is indeed fortunate to have support from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, Inc. in order to further its mission, "To enable Hill Country adults, through education, to be better prepared to participate in the life of the community".  For more information about the services offered by Families & Literacy

THE MISSION of Families & Literacy, Inc., is to enable

Hill Country adults, through education, to be better

prepared to participate in the life of the community.

Your support can change a life:

Education has never been more needed and valuable than it is today for our adult students.  With the job market extremely tight, how far can one get if one does not have a high school education?  If one does not speak, read, or write English well enough to function in today's ever more complicated society?

Families & Literacy, Inc. is a safety net whereby our adult students can equip themselves with the necessary basic skills to compete in today's environment.  Some comments from our students at our spring 2011 GED graduation ceremony:

"It was the first stepping stone to opening so many doors for me." Kimberly Martinez, currently enrolled at Alamo Colleges.

"I promised my mother I would finish school.  I am very proud of what I have achieved." Isaac Gamez, husband and father of three young children.
"God has let me see my life path clearly through Families & Literacy programs and no one can see my past because of my Future."
Cathie Jackson, 56 years old, was recently accepted into the Schreiner University LVN program.

Please consider a donation to show your support for our next class of students following in the footsteps of those above.  Families & Literacy, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Hill Country adults in Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall, Kimble, and Bandera counties.  All contributions are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.  For additional information contact me at 830-896-9688 or via email at famandlit1@hctc.net.
